TM 475.3
What do you think you know concerning TM:475.3
and its contradictions?
According to the preface of the third edition, “TESTIMONIES
TO MINISTERS AND GOSPEL WORKERS WAS PUBLISHED IN 1923. THIS WAS ONE OF THE
FIRST E. G. WHITE BOOKS OF POSTHUMOUS ISSUANCE.” (TM:ix.1.) For further
information about this book read the preface and the historical forward to the
Third Edition of this book.

Prophecy must be
fulfilled. The Lord says: "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord." Somebody is
to come in the spirit and power of Elijah, [SEE APPENDIX.] and when he
appears, men may say: "You are too earnest, you do not interpret the
Scriptures in the proper way. Let me tell you how to teach your message."—TM
475.3
This passage was
first published on Jan. 29, 1890 at a morning talk at Battle Creek,
Michigan. Less than a month later on February 18, 1890 under the title “How to
Meet a Controverted Point of Doctrine” it was re-published in print in the
Church’s Periodical called the Review and Herald.
To learn the historical origin, and date of publication does
much to inform the careful researcher as to the condition of the church and the
cause for such a marked declaration like this after that great way mark meeting
held in the General Conference Session in Minneapolis, MN in 1888. However,
prior to what transpired at this pivotal landmark meeting you should know and
understand a previous testimony. This was her appeal written at Healdsburg,
California, on May 30, 1882, to be read at the camp meetings. She said:
I am filled with
sadness when I think of our condition as a people. The Lord has not
closed heaven to us, but our own course of continual backsliding has separated
us from God. Pride, covetousness, and love of the world have lived in the heart
without fear of banishment or condemnation. Grievous and presumptuous
sins have dwelt among us. And yet the general opinion is that the church is
flourishing and that peace and spiritual prosperity are in all her
borders. {5T 217.1}
The church has
turned back from following Christ her Leader and is steadily
retreating toward Egypt. Yet few are alarmed or astonished at their want of
spiritual power. Doubt, and even disbelief of the testimonies of
the Spirit of God, is leavening our churches everywhere. Satan would have it
thus. Ministers who preach self instead of Christ would have it thus. The
testimonies are unread and unappreciated. God has spoken to you. Light has been shining from His word and from
the testimonies, and both have been slighted and disregarded. The result is
apparent in the lack of purity and devotion and earnest faith among us.—5T
217.1, 2
“The Church has turned back from following Christ her
Leader and is steadily retreating toward Egypt.” Certainly, on May 30, 1882
Christ was no longer the head of the Leadership of the SDA church. So then,
under whose leadership did she come under? The appeal is unmistakable. The
church is since then under the leadership of Satan and his Ministers who
reflect more of self rather than of Christ.
However, the positive unpopular portion of this sad appeal
is right there written in the second sentence, and cannot be overshadowed by the
evil, selfish decision of God’s church. That “the Lord has not closed heaven
to us” was manifested. To prove this fact after having ceased from
following Christ for 6 years in 1888 God sent a most precious additional light
through two Elders namely E. J. Waggoner and A. T. Jones. As you may be already
aware that this “a most precious message” (14MR:128.2) was NOT accepted
by the leadership in 1888 and was actively and persistently rejected so that by
1890 both leadership and laity had rejected the light of heaven. (See: 14MR:116.3-118.2.)
[
"The light
which will lighten the earth with its glory will be called a false light, by
those who refuse to walk in its advancing glory."—Review and Herald, May
27, 1890.—1Tr:50.2
"…God does not want any man to think that no other
message is to be heard but that which He may have given. We want the past message and the fresh
message," says the Spirit of Prophecy.—Review and Herald, March 18,
1890.—4Tr:65.2
Moreover, this notable date, 1890, was reached just two
years after the doctrine of "righteousness by faith" was first
brought to the attention of the Denomination at the historical 1888 Minneapolis
Camp Meeting, and then and there rejected by nearly all of those who were
present. Then during the ensuing two
years, it was rejected by the whole Denomination. (See Christ Our
Righteousness, pp. 41-55, 1941 edition; Testimonies To Ministers, pp. 79,
80.) This is one of the reasons that the
church was in 1890 left to enter a forty-year antitypical wilderness wandering,
matching Moses' attempt and failure to deliver ancient Israel; also his running
away into the wilderness. (See Forty Years in the Wilderness, by Elder Taylor
Bunch, pp. 15-17.)—1Srp:69.1

“God would have every member
of His creation understand the great work of the infinite Son of God in giving
His life for the salvation of the world. "Behold, what manner of love the
Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God:
therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not" (1 John 3:1).
When he sees in Christ the embodiment of infinite and disinterested love and benevolence, there is awakened in the heart of the sinner a thankful disposition to follow where Christ is drawing.—Manuscript 87, 1900.
Especially the Moral Law
"The law was our
schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith"
(Galatians 3:24). In this scripture, the Holy Spirit through the apostle is
speaking especially of the moral law. The law reveals sin to us, and causes us
to feel our need of Christ and to flee unto Him for pardon and peace by
exercising repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
An unwillingness to yield up preconceived opinions, and to accept this truth, lay at the foundation of a large share of the opposition manifested at Minneapolis against the Lord's message through Brethren [E.J.] Waggoner and [A.T.] Jones. By exciting that opposition Satan succeeded
235
in shutting away from our people, in a great measure, the special power of the Holy Spirit that God longed to impart to them. The enemy prevented them from obtaining that efficiency which might have been theirs in carrying the truth to the world, as the apostles proclaimed it after the day of Pentecost. The light that is to lighten the whole earth with its glory was resisted, and by the action of our own brethren has been in a great degree kept away from the world.

—Selected Messages, book 1
p. 234.3-6
Here we see in 1SM:234.6 as plain as day that an
additional and distinct message of Rev. 18:1 (something other than
what was already present since 1844) has an official role and work to do FIRST
on behalf of the SDA Church before
it would have its major role to perform on behalf of the world.
However, just as faithful as God was in sending additional
light in 1888 after being left behind in the proverbial “dust” on May 30, 1882
the following was left on record unrepudiated and once again and in harmony
with the silver lining for the penitent, “the Lord has not closed heaven to
us.”
“Brethren, the truth
of God needs no apology. The man who preaches the truth of God needs no
apology. The truth of God wants your faith; that is what
it wants. All that the truth of God needs is that you and I shall believe it,
and receive it into our hearts, and stand by it in the face of all the attacks
that can be made upon it; and let it be known that you do stand by the
messengers whom God sends to preach, not because they are certain men,
but because God sends them with a message.
“That, however, is but a sample. There will be things to come that will be more surprising than that was to those at Minneapolis,—more surprising than anything we have yet seen. And, brethren, we will be required to receive and preach that truth. But unless you and I have every fiber of that spirit rooted out of our hearts, we will treat that message and the messenger by whom it is sent, as God has declared we have treated this other message.”—General Conference Daily Bulletin, February 7, 1893, p. 185 par. 4, 5
Are you seeing the wider and broader picture the Holy Spirit
desires us to receive? That although the church has turned her back against
Christ her leader there is still hope for individuals who will hear Jesus
through His pointed testimonies He has left for her?
Is it any wonder that posthumously in 1923 this reference
published in the RH, Feb. 18, 1890 resurfaced concerning additional light
through another prophet is scheduled to arrive? Is it any wonder that 72 years
later in 1962 this passage came under dispute and thus the appearance of an
Appendix in the third edition of Testimonies to Minister and Gospel Workers
came to be for TM:475.3?
…THIS VOLUME CONTAINS MESSAGES GIVEN TO ADMONISH, WARN,
REPROVE, AND COUNSEL THE MINISTERS OF THE CHURCH, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION GIVEN
TO PERILS PECULIAR TO MEN WHO STAND IN POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY.…—TM:xvi.1
Three sentences, that if left just as they are, as they
read, undisturbed, unaddressed by man’s uninspired asserted opinions, would lead the
feet of the very elect into all truth sooner rather than later. This paragraph speaks
volumes. It is consistent with other incontrovertible, inspired, appendix-free
statements and prophecy itself directly from the Holy Bible.
After reading the opinion contained in the Appendix supplied
by the wisdom of “the Board of trustees of the Ellen G. White Estate” the impression given is that the
paragraph should have been written in the following manner, and their intent is
very clear as to what they want us to be understood should now read as follows:
Prophecy [has
been] fulfilled. The Lord says: "Behold, I will send you Elijah the
prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord."
Somebody is [here] in the spirit and power of Elijah, [SEE APPENDIX.]
and [since his] appear[ance], men [have said]: "You
are too earnest, you do not interpret the Scriptures in the proper way. Let me
tell you how to teach your message."
Brethren think, had it been actually written that way do you
believe that an appendix for TM:475.3 (found in TM 534.1-535.5) would have been
written with this fourfold asserted bias emphasis towards herself and that she could
not have possibly been pointing to another person to come all along?
i.e:
[1.] PAGE 475. SOMEBODY
IS TO COME IN THE SPIRIT AND POWER OF
ELIJAH: THESE WORDS HAVE BEEN MISTAKENLY APPLIED BY SOME TO SOME
INDIVIDUAL WHO IT WAS THOUGHT WOULD APPEAR WITH A PROPHETIC
MESSAGE SUBSEQUENT TO MRS. WHITE'S LIFE AND WORK. {TM 534.1}
[2.] “…WHEN THE ARTICLE
IS READ IN ITS ENTIRETY IT BECOMES APPARENT THAT ELLEN WHITE, IN THIS STATEMENT
MADE JUST A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER THE MINNEAPOLIS CONFERENCE TO A GROUP
IN BATTLE CREEK, WAS SPEAKING OF HER OWN MINISTRY.… {TM 534.1}
[3.] “THEN SHE MAKES
REFERENCE AGAIN TO HER OWN EXPERIENCE:” {TM 535.2}
[4.] “THAT SHE WAS
REFERRING TO HER OWN EXPERIENCE IS ALSO MADE CLEAR FROM THE PARAGRAPH WHICH
FOLLOWS, IN WHICH SHE DECLARES: {TM
535.4}
"I SHALL TELL THE
TRUTH AS GOD GIVES IT TO ME. . . ." {TM 535.5}
It cannot be more obvious. If the paragraph were to mean
that she was really referring to herself then wouldn't the need for an appendix
for page 475.3 pointing to herself become unnecessary? Certainly, the presence of an appendix, in this instance, is a clear indication that the opposite view and intent of this appendix must be true. The following biblical example should elucidate this
bait-and-switch procedure.
This is the same tactic and similar argument urged upon
Jesus Christ’s very own words by those who deny the individual personhood of
the HOLY SPIRIT when the Son of God said:
Joh 14:16-18
16 And I [1.] will pray the
Father [2.], and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he [3.] may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive,
because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth
with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I
will come to you.
The Holy Spirit personhood deniers quote and exalt vs. 18 in order to
contradict what Jesus plainly and unmistakably stated in vs. 16. They also
misconstrue the distinct manner Jesus “will come” to them in context of what is
to become of them in the absence of His bodily presence after the Ascension.
Let’s sew this up before we return to the main subject at hand by examining the
following testimony in light of John 14:16-18.
The nature of the
Holy Spirit is a mystery. Men cannot explain it, because the Lord has not
revealed it to them. Men having fanciful views may bring together
passages of Scripture and put a human construction on them, but the
acceptance of these views will not strengthen the church. Regarding such mysteries,
which are too deep for human understanding, silence is golden. {AA 52.1}
The office of the Holy Spirit is distinctly
specified in the words of Christ: "When He is come, He will reprove the
world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." John 16:8. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts of sin. If
the sinner responds to the quickening influence of the Spirit, he will be
brought to repentance and aroused to the importance of obeying the divine
requirements.—AA:52.1, 2
Is the nature of Christ a mystery? (See: GC88 c.5)
His nature is not a mystery but His love is (HP:64.3). But
what is a mystery about Christ is not the same as the One called the Holy Spirit.
See: GCB, February 25, 1895 par. 6, 7.
So would Christ be speaking about Himself personally when
speaking of another comforter to come namely the Holy Spirit? How can they
both be one and the same person at the same time in the same sense?
Without the
cross, man could have no union with the Father.—AA:209.4
Without the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead,
what can be accomplished?
…The Spirit was to be given as a regenerating agent, and without
this the sacrifice of Christ would have been of no avail.…—DA:671.2
So again, how can they be both one and the
same person at the same time in the same sense when there are three distinct
persons revealed with different roles to play in the plan of redemption?
When the Son of God was on earth, who cannot lie Said “another,“
then that must never be misconstrued to mean anything other than what the word
implies.
Likewise, when through the Holy Spirit the servant of the
Lord said and wrote, “Somebody is to come…” will always mean that the
individual in question has not yet come and
is not present with them when the statement
was made. And she doubles down on the prophetic future tense word. The thought
is self-verifying for she added “and when he appears.” Thus, contrary to
what the appendix would have us to believe, what is written by Ellen G. White,
in light of additional rejected truth brought by someone else other than
herself in 1888, could never mean that the individual being spoken of “to
come” is present with them. So why is this plain and simple
incontrovertible English, future tense evidence, being made to say what the Holy
Spirit could have never meant through his prophet to say? Let us Count well how many prophets
are involved here. One distinct recognized prophet (EGW) that is
presently there with the SDA church since 1844, the same church that abandoned
Christ in 1882 and received additional light six years later in 1888, mind you
not by her. And after its (Rev. 18:1) rejection two years later on two
occasions [verbally on Jan. 29, 1890 and repeated in writing on February 18,
1890] must be and could only be speaking about another prophet
that “is to come” that is not present with them at that time that must
come again with another additional message. The paragraph opened with "Prophecy must be fulfilled."
Indeed, she was faithful and confessed “I SHALL TELL THE TRUTH AS GOD GIVES IT
TO ME“ but men of their own accord and wisdom have lightly esteemed “the truth
as God gives it” to her and have given an incorrect understanding of this plainest and simple testimony of additional light (Rev. 18:1) to come to the SDA
Church after 1890.
But the story doesn’t end here with this grand exposĂ© by comparing
testimony with testimony and scrutinizing the meaning of words and their
intent. What if I told you that the situation is not hopeless for the elect's sake in the SDA Chruch and that the same
silver lining in the testimony of May 30, 1882 that “the Lord has not closed
heaven to us,” is still in operation?
Psa 76:10
10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of
wrath shalt thou restrain.
The very daring act of including a misleading appendix 72
years later after the fact fulfills and justifies that “the Lord has not
closed heaven to us.” Please diligently consider the following additional
and light shedding evidence.

https://egwwritings-a.akamaihd.net/pdf/en_TM.pdf
The following is hard evidence of tampering with the
intention to mislead. Here is proof that sometime between 1923 and 1962, the
"Somebody is to come," the predicted Elijah, came to the SDA Church.
Ladies and gentilemen of the Jury, images were captured by yours truly of a bonafide 2nd edition published by PACIFIC
PRESS PUBLISHING ASSOCIATION, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA in 1947.
Please evaluate the layout from the cover “01” to the last
page on IMAGE “07” and “08.” Why does the end of the Contents section of this
second edition have no appendix entry?
We are not here to condemn every appendix and its usefulness
to bring clarity. Of course, on a case-by-case basis, each should be tested by
the Word of God and within reason. The appendix cannot be demonstrated for the
purpose to be a source of contradiction to the subject being explored. That
would qualify as an abuse of its purpose.
A very good example of a valid useful appendix is found in the
book Patriarchs and Prophets, page 759.2-4. This is to address NOTE 3 on
PAGE 282. When you read clarity and facts are brought to the table that proves
that the children of Israel could have never been in slavery for 400 years as
most uninformed Christians repeat.
We trust and understand that when the source cited Review
and Herald, Feb. 18, 1890, the church is counted as being absolutely
faithful. For when we turn to the Periodical, we can find it located in
paragraph 16. While you are there, please take special notice of the absence of
any appendix here. Sincerely, why is that? What is the motive here?
To Wit: Second edition (1944) of TM published in 1947 hard
copy, with no evidence of the presence of an appendix. How then does the 1923
first edition electronic version manage
to include the appendix, altering what was published originally in the first two
Hard Back editions?
What is written in TM:475.3 can only be misconstrued when
man's opinion is taken in opposition to what a prophet plainly stated in black
and white. In verity
"There are many who cannot
distinguish between the work of God and that of man. I shall tell the truth as
God gives it to me" (TM:475.4) and so she did. She told us four times. Once
by voice and once with her own pen and the other two occasion posthumously to
the Ministers of our beloved Denomination in 1923 and 1944. We have proof of two posthumous editions without the presence of this
misleading appendix. Thus, judge ye, why did man's wisdom, The Board of
Trustees of the Ellen G. White Estate, feel the urgency, the need to
finally “assist” the servant of the Lord in 1962 in the final and third
edition?
Here is hard evidence that proves that Elijah must have come
sometime between 1923 and 1962.
The three angels of Revelation 14:6-11 are associated with divinely
appointed special revelation brought to God's people through His chosen messengers.
The first and second angel's messages were brought by Father Miller. The
complimentary third angel and a clearer understanding of the first two angels
were brought by Ellen G. White. And she, under Inspiration, informs the wise
and the penitent of an additional prophetic message that “is to come,” is
to be received in and as an addition to what is already present by the SDA
Church. See TM:300 and 6T:406.5.
…Unless those who can help in ----- are
aroused to a sense of their duty, they will not recognize the work of God when
the loud cry of the third angel shall be heard. When light goes forth to
lighten the earth, instead of coming up to the help of the Lord, they will want
to bind about His work to meet their narrow ideas. Let me tell you that the
Lord will work in this last work in a manner very much out of the common order
of things, and in a way that will be contrary to any human planning. There will
be those among us who will always want to control the work of God, to dictate
even what movements shall be made when
the work goes forward under the direction of the angel WHO
JOINS the third angel in the message to be given to the world. God will use
ways and means by which it will be seen that He is taking the reins in His own
hands.…—TM:299.2
We are to throw aside our
narrow, selfish plans, remembering that we have a work of the largest magnitude
and highest importance. In doing this work we are sounding the first, second,
and third angel's messages, and are thus being prepared for the coming
of that OTHER angel from heaven who is to lighten the earth with his
glory.—6T:406.5
No one should claim that
he has all the light there is for God's people. The Lord will not tolerate
this. He has said, "I have set before thee an open door, and no man can
shut it." Even if all our leading men should refuse light and truth, that
door will still remain open. The Lord will raise up men who will give
the people the message for this
time.—TM:107.1

For further evidence of boldly contradicting the servant of the
Lord, and tampering with her writings on this point with the intent to shut
away again heaven's light from God’s people as in times past (1888; 1890), please consider the following:
“In 1888 at the
General Conference held in Minneapolis, Minn., the Angel of Rev. 18:1 came down
to do His work, and was ridiculed, criticized and rejected. And when the
message He brings again, swells into a loud cry, it will again
be ridiculed, spoken against and be rejected by the majority.”—Taking up
a Reproach. By Ellen G. White.
This reference regarding the Angel of Rev. 18:1 published by Sis.
White appears on the cover of a document called, “Some History, Some
Experience, and Some Facts” by Elder A. T. Jones.
The first paragraph on the cover of SHSESF also appears at the end of a pamphlet called, “The Test and Trial at Minneapolis 1888” by Ellen G. White.
To
corroborate the above “waymark” experience described in 14MR:128.2; 1SM:234.3-6; GCDB, Feb. 7, 1893, p. 185 par.
4, 5; SHSESF:1.1; and “The Test and Trial at Minneapolis 1888” an additional
witness publishes his testimony, “Forty Years in the Wilderness in Type andAntitype” by Taylor G. Bunch. To this sad ordeal, all of this satanic effort adds doubt and disbelief that is currently leading to the present denial of heaven sent additional "present truth" through Elijah the prophet.

In every instance, the Bible is consistent with a grammatical future tense when the phrase "is to come" is used. It stands to logically reason the same understanding should be applied to TM:475.3.
Be honest, would an SDA accept an appendix of Deut. 18:15-18 in Acts 3:22-26? Why not?
Then why should we accept an appendix for RH, February 18, 1890, par. 16 in TM:475.3 [1963, 3rd Ed.]; and at the same time ignore all of the SOP references that counsel us to be on the watch for "new light"?
Wouldn't we be acting like the ancient Jews who crucified the Messiah? Wouldn't we, like them, be betraying our Lord whom we've accepted as our personal Saviour when we refuse "new light"?
Is the Word of God still our Standard?
What happens to those who obey 2 Chron. 20:20?
If so then are we still willing to believe Rev. 12:17; 19:10?
De 8:3—And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
The Test of New Light.—Our brethren should be willing to investigate in a candid way every point of controversy. If a brother is teaching error, those
44
who are in responsible positions ought to know it; and if he is teaching truth, they ought to take their stand at his side. We should all know what is being taught among us; for if it is truth, we need it. We are all under obligation to God to know what He sends us. He has given directions by which we may test every doctrine,--"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." If the light presented meets this test, we are not to refuse to accept it because it does not agree with our ideas.--Gospel Workers, pp. 300, 301.—CW:43.3
…When new light is presented to the church, it is perilous to shut yourselves away from it. Refusing to hear because you are prejudiced against the message or the messenger will not make your case excusable before God. To condemn that which you have not heard and do not understand will not exalt your wisdom in the eyes of those who are candid in their investigations of truth. And to speak with contempt of those whom God has sent with a message of truth, is folly and madness. If our youth are seeking to educate themselves to be workers in His cause, they should learn the way of the Lord, and live by every word that proceedeth out of His mouth. They are not to make up their minds that the whole truth has been unfolded, and that the Infinite One has no more light for His people. If they entrench themselves in the belief that the whole truth has been revealed, they will be in danger of discarding precious jewels of truth that shall be discovered as men turn their attention to the searching of the rich mine of God's Word.—TSS:60.1
There is no sin in reviewing our "blueprints" for God's house. When we forfeit light for His house, darkness must be present (Matt. 6:23). This is elementary, a fundamental truth we must all relearn.
May God bless us. "We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history."—3SM:162.3
"Truth is eternal, and conflict with error will only make manifest its strength. We should never refuse to examine the Scriptures with those who, we have reason to believe, desire to know what is truth as much as we do."—CW:44.1
